Supervisors

  • Min Yang is a Professor at the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His work focuses on identifying, understanding, and controlling characteristic contaminants in water, with particular emphasis on drinking-water taste-and-odor risks and the treatment and resource recovery of wastewater from industries including oil production and antibiotic manufacturing.
  • Jiaping Chen is a Distinguished Professor at the College of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, Shenzhen University. His research focuses on pollution-control technology, environmental chemistry, and computational modelling of chemical and environmental processes.

Eligible disciplines

Environmental science and engineering, environmental engineering, ecology, chemistry (analytical or environmental chemistry), microbiology, biotechnology, water-resources management, or a related discipline.

Research areas

The successful candidate will work on one or more of the following topics:

  1. Mechanisms and intelligent early warning of algae-related taste-and-odor risk: environmental responses and molecular mechanisms of odor-producing algae, combined with multi-source data and machine learning.
  2. Control technologies and mechanisms for algae-related taste-and-odor pollution: development of odorant-removal and in-situ control technologies, including their effects on algal communities.

Requirements

  1. A PhD degree, or the ability to complete the PhD defence shortly. Applicants should be under 35 years of age and normally within three years of receiving their doctorate.
  2. A doctoral thesis relevant to the proposed research area and availability for full-time postdoctoral research.
  3. Strong theoretical and practical skills, the ability to conduct research independently, and strong Chinese and English writing skills.
  4. Integrity, good health, diligence, responsibility, creativity, and a collaborative approach.
  5. Preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
  • publications in high-quality journals;
  • experience with major research projects;
  • expertise in aquatic ecology or instrumental analysis of algae; or
  • data processing in at least one programming language, or statistical analysis and visualization for environmental modelling.

Salary and benefits

  1. Employment follows Shenzhen University’s postdoctoral policies. The comprehensive pre-tax annual salary is RMB 330,000–360,000 and includes applicable Guangdong Province and Shenzhen living allowances during the 24-month support period. Eligible researchers may receive additional Shenzhen retention support after completing the programme and entering a local employment contract of at least three years.
  2. Candidates eligible for Guangdong’s overseas postdoctoral talent-support programme may receive up to RMB 600,000 over two years, with additional housing support available after completion subject to the programme requirements.
  3. Support is available for domestic and international academic exchange and conference participation.
  4. Additional benefits under Shenzhen University’s policies include meal, housing, and personal sports allowances.

Research environment

The Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences and Shenzhen University provide research funding and access to advanced experimental platforms in China and abroad. Candidates will be supported in applying for postdoctoral funding schemes, including the Postdoctoral International Exchange Programme, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, National Natural Science Foundation of China Young Scientists Fund, and relevant research-translation programmes.

Researchers are encouraged and assisted in applying for faculty and research positions. Outstanding postdoctoral researchers may be recommended for research or teaching posts at the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences or Shenzhen University.
